We Are Intensifying Our AI Research in Cognitive Architectures

With the establishment of the Advanced Cognitive Systems Lab, we are launching the next chapter

Recent months have been marked by exceptional advances in the development of our Cognitive Kernel technology. With e1, we have impressively demonstrated that deductive capabilities and explainable reasoning can be realized in AI systems—securely, transparently, and with systematic control. In the e2-research project, we have consistently continued this path and proven that the performance of agentic AI systems can be scaled not solely through model size, but primarily through architectural innovations.

These successes not only mark a milestone for embraceableAI but also raise a central question for the future: How can Europe build a sovereign, secure, and high-performance AI infrastructure without losing itself in a global race for model parameters?

Our answer: through focused fundamental research in Cognitive Architectures—those architectural concepts that enable agentic AI to act in a controllable, norm-compliant, and comprehensible manner.

Independent Research Unit with Strategic Mission

To resolutely continue this path, we have established the Advanced Cognitive Systems Lab gGmbH (i.G.). This new, non-profit research unit will consolidate and strategically expand scientific activities in the areas of cognitive control, deductive reasoning, and agentic control systems. It represents our long-term commitment to fostering independent European AI research with strategic significance—in alignment with the principles of the EU AI Act and the need for trustworthy, explainable AI for safety-critical applications.

Focus: Secure, Reliable, and Controllable Agentic AI

While many AI developments currently focus primarily on scaling models and parameter sizes, we deliberately emphasize Cognitive Control as a fundamental principle. Only through architecturally anchored control mechanisms can we realize the qualities necessary for deploying AI in sensitive and safety-critical domains: reliability, traceability, and regulatory compliance.

The Advanced Cognitive Systems Lab will work precisely on these aspects—scientifically grounded, interdisciplinary, and with a clear application focus: agentic systems that are not only high-performing but remain controllable.

Invitation to Collaborate

With this new research unit, we also aim to deepen collaboration with partners from academia, industry, and the public sector. Those who wish to work with us on the next generation of cognitive AI systems can become part of this European AI initiative.
